How we review dental supplements

If you have bought a supplement that promised a lot and did nothing, you deserve to know how a review was made before you trust it. Here is exactly how every Healthy Teeth Basics supplement review is built.

We have not used the products we review

We have not taken, used or tested any of the supplements we review, and every review says so near the top. We don't publish testimonials, star ratings, before-and-after claims or "we tried it for 30 days" stories. What you get instead is a careful reading of what the vendor says, set next to what independent evidence shows.

Who writes these reviews

Reviews are published by Healthy Teeth Basics. They are drafted with AI assistance and then checked, line by line, against the vendor's pages and the government and peer-reviewed sources cited at the bottom of each review; an automated fact check holds back any statement those sources don't support. No dentist, doctor or pharmacist reviews them, and no vendor sees a review before it is published. The full process for all our pages is on how we write.

The five steps of every review

  1. Read the vendor's own pages

    The sales page, ingredient list, FAQ, refund policy and shipping terms, read on a date we show on the review. Every claim we repeat is marked as the vendor's, quoted in its words.

  2. Check each ingredient

    For each listed ingredient we look for independent evidence in government sources and peer-reviewed human studies, and we note when a label gives no amounts or no strain names, which makes a study impossible to match.

  3. Check safety

    Who should ask a doctor, dentist or pharmacist first, from FDA and NIH sources, not from the vendor.

  4. Record price and refund terms

    Prices, shipping and money-back terms exactly as the vendor lists them, with the date. If the sales page and the refund page disagree, we show both.

  5. Say what we could not verify

    Every review lists the claims we could not confirm, such as results promised for the finished product when no published trial of it exists.

What the FDA does and does not do

The FDA says it does not have the authority to approve dietary supplements for safety and effectiveness, or to approve their labeling, before they are sold. Companies are responsible for their products and their claims. Every review repeats this, because ads often imply otherwise (FDA 101: Dietary Supplements).

Ask a doctor, dentist or pharmacist first if you

  • take any prescription medicine or other supplements;
  • are pregnant, trying to get pregnant or breastfeeding, or are buying for a child;
  • have a weakened immune system or a serious illness (the risk of harmful effects from probiotics is greater in these groups, according to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health);
  • have surgery planned;
  • have gums that bleed, hurt or swell, or a tooth that aches: see a dentist before trying any supplement.

Never stop or change a prescribed medicine to take a supplement. If you have a problem you think is linked to a supplement, stop taking it, contact your doctor, and report it to the FDA through its Safety Reporting Portal.

How money works on review pages

Review pages carry ClickBank affiliate links to the vendor's official page. If you buy through one, we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. The disclosure sits at the top of the page, every such link is labeled "(affiliate link)", and links are marked as sponsored for search engines. Vendors cannot pay for a review, see it before it is published, or change what it says. The full policy is in our affiliate disclosure.

Reviews so far

Read the dental supplements evidence guide first, then the ProDentim review and the ProvaDent review. If a vendor's terms change, or you find a mistake, tell us and we will check and update the page.
